Application

I was at the Smart India hackathon when I was approached with this opportunity randomly when I was working on some project at the hackathon which was held in Coimbatore/Bangalore.

Show up at hackathons and people will take notice. I did not apply for this. I was selected based on the initial conversation I had with the representative from the company who was sent to the hackathon to find some candidates for internships.

Interview

Video interview. I was asked general questions and nothing too technical.

I used to read newspapers a lot and that made a good first impression. So... read newspapers. Use the inshorts app to read news in your free time. I still recommend the newspaper though.

Communication skill matters. Speak without getting nervous. As someone who was diagnosed with Childhood-onset fluency disorder, I managed to speak without stuttering. If I can, you can too.

Learning Experience

• Ruby on Rails - I learned that there was something like this only after starting my internship
• I developed a review classification system using DialogFlow which will categorize reviews posted about products according to their nature. Basically, I designed and implemented some modules of an e-commerce based software product involving Sentiment Analysis and Machine Learning Concepts by using Ruby on Rails, Angular, Python and Google API’s.

• I learnt what developers actually do. And how they develop software.
• Git. I learnt git from scratch.
• I was also learning a lot about security in my free time back at the hostel where I was staying. Did a lot of online courses.
